Riga’s Chabad Or Avner Jewish School has begun the new academic year in a new temporary location, where students will study throughout the school year.
The opening ceremony was attended by Yaakov Hagoel, Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, who joined students, parents, school leaders and community representatives in marking the beginning of the new academic year.
The move to the temporary premises comes ahead of a major renovation of the school’s permanent building. The project will create a modern, thoughtfully designed and welcoming learning environment that will better meet students’ needs and open up new opportunities for the school’s continued development.
The Yael Foundation has made a significant contribution to the school’s growth, and its support is helping to make these planned changes possible.
For students and parents, this temporary chapter also brings a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead. Once the renovation is complete, the renewed premises will allow the school to continue growing, develop new initiatives and welcome even more students and families. Following the opening ceremony, a well-attended parents’ meeting brought together the school’s founders and Chabad emissaries, Rabbi Mordechai and Rebbetzin Rivka Glazman; the school’s director, Marina Jefremova; Rabbi Shlomo Neeman, Director of FJC’s Educational and Humanitarian Programmes; and Chana Rynkov, Director of the Or Avner School Network and the Darkeinu curriculum. Riga’s newly arrived Chabad emissaries, Rabbi Shalom and Riki Wolf, also took part.
Founded in 1995, Riga’s Or Avner Jewish School has educated generations of local families. It combines an accredited general education programme with Jewish studies, Hebrew and a strong connection to Jewish heritage and community life. The upcoming renovation will mark the next important chapter in the school’s continuing story.
