Sukkot Celebration at the Chabad House in Jūrmala

On 29 September, the spirit of Sukkot took us to Jūrmala, where we visited the Chabad House on Jomas Street.

We were warmly welcomed by Rabbi Mendi and Shoshi, who introduced the children to the newly opened Chabad House and explained why it is such an important place for Jūrmala’s Jewish community.

The children then had the chance to get involved themselves. During an educational quest, the students searched for answers about Sukkot traditions, before making colourful decorations for the sukkah. Later, everyone enjoyed a burger lunch, which was especially welcome after a busy programme of activities.

Festive traditions are remembered best when children can do more than simply read about them. By taking part, asking questions, creating and sharing these moments together, they have the opportunity to experience the meaning of the celebration for themselves.

Our heartfelt thanks to Rabbi Mendi and Shoshi for their warm welcome, hospitality and the time we spent together, giving our students the opportunity to celebrate Sukkot in a different setting and return home with warm memories.

Chag Sameach! Happy Sukkot!
